THIS EVENT HAS NOW FINISHED

On Wednesday 1st & Thursday 2nd November 2017  – Take “A Walk In The Dark”  – To discover York in a new light !   This is a rare opportunity to Walk the City Walls at night.  Entry at Bootham Bar and exit at Monk Bar (One Way only).   Open from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  Last entry 7:50pm.  Bring a torch !    £1.00

This once a year two day event is organised by the Friends of York Walls (FOYW) and will give you the opportunity to see night time views of York from the City Walls, including the part floodlit York Minster.  The main walls walk itself is in the dark.    FoYW Guides will be on hand + book sales and information at Bootham Bar.

There will be a special “lighting effects show ” at Robin Hood Tower, kindly provided by York St John University students.  { further details TBA }

  • ENTER & START at Bootham Bar – ONE WAY ONLY.
  • Normal wall walk restrictions apply.
  • Opening is subject to weather and safety conditions.
  • Walk at your own risk – and at your own pace.
  • NOTE that there are numerous steps along the walls.
  • This is a walk in the dark – so a torch would be useful.
  • All children MUST be accompanied and supervised.
  • NO pushchairs (walkway is too narrow).
  • NO dogs.
  • Photographers please – NO use of tripods on the walkways.
  • FOYW retain the right to refuse admission to this event.
  • Please observe any safety instructions from FOYW volunteers
  • Unfortunately this event is not suitable for wheelchair users or anyone with difficulty climbing steps.

This “Walls Walk” event is £1.00 for adults, but children (under 16) and NUS card holders FREE  –  No booking is necessary.    All “donations” to FoYW will be  used to promote and preserve York’s City Walls and Defences + repairs to Fishergate Postern Tower.

We understand that Croque Monsieur (by Bootham Bar) plan to stay open late – so enjoy a drink or snack before your walk.

Last FPT openings of 2017 – You can still visit Fishergate Postern Tower on Saturday 28th October and Saturday 4th November 2017 from 10am to 4pm.    Admission is FREE.  Last opportunity to see the 2017 Photo Competition finalists entries.

Wednesday 1st November and Thursday 2nd November, open from 6pm to 8pm   –   A rare opportunity to walk along Yorks historic City Walls after the sun goes down and to see the city and Minster in a new light!

Friends of York Walls volunteers will be opening up the Walls for a “Walk In The Dark” starting at Bootham Bar going (one direction) to Monk Bar.   Entrance at Bootham Bar   £1.00  –  children and NUS students FREE.  The students of nearby York St John University will be featuring a light installation at Robin Hood Tower.

Friends of York Walls are supporting the 2017 TakeOver Festival “Lead In Event” on Saturday 16th September when performers will be taking to York’s famous City Walls for a one of a kind performance trail.

Featuring new and emerging artists and performers at various stations throughout the Monk Bar to Bootham Bar stretch of the walls with 10-15 minute shows this will be the perfect opportunity to engage with accessible arts, one of TakeOver’s main aims, and find out what is planned for this year’s main festival week in October.

Events planned from 13:00 to 17:00 –  as detailed on the above plan.

As always entry to the walls is FREE and the performances in this event are also FREE and unticketed.
