Hello everyone,

May the Friends of York Walls committe invite you to a social evening at the Black Swan Inn Peasholme Green, York on the Friday 23rd September 2011, 7.30pm.

A night of getting to know you. It will be informal and friendly, all we want is to meet you. We now have 137 registered members, most of whom we have not met. Please come along and introduce yourself and attempt our indoor treasure trail.

The free tickets will be issued via a Email from me at sec@yorkwalls.org.uk it will be first come first served, limited to 50 people.

Please repond soon so that we can organise ourselves to meet the demand of meeting new friends.

Friends of York Walls has made a bid for support from the Heritage Lottery Fund to refurbish the 500 year old Postern Tower and give it a new lease of life as a visitor centre and cafe. City of York Council has been asked to provide funding to complete repair work, which is essential to the heritage fund bid, to the ancient four storey building on the corner of Fishergate and Piccadilly.

The Friends of York Walls are to present ‘Our Heritage the Walls’.

A Powerpoint presentation at Clifton parish Church on 13th October 2011 at 2pm.

Entrance £4, at the door.

Danny Aitken, 12, of Acomb, successfully walked the length of the city walls five times on Saturday 9th July to raise money for The Prostate Cancer Charity after learning his grandfather was battling the condition.
