Friends of York Walls have raised just over £3,000 since the official launch of the Fishergate Postern Tower Sponsor a Stone initiative! We would like to thank each and every one of our donors to date, along with all those people who have made a standard donation. We need more sponsors to realise our dream of restoring the Postern Tower.

The Friends of York Walls have recently allocated Stone 45K to HM Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her visit to York on Thursday April 5th 2012. The Queen was visiting York to distribute Maundy Money and as part of the 800th Anniversary of achieving City status.

If you wish to contribute to the tower fund then please look at the Sponsor a Stone page where you can fill in an online application form.

Friends of York Walls and others are invited to join us in a parade on St. George’s Day,  Monday 23rd April 2012 at 6pm.

George and the Dragon will set off from Tower Gardens at 6pm and walk towards the eye of York, via Cliffords Tower.

The Dragon will be wounded (we need him for next year!) and a Scotsman will be captured. The parade will then proceed to Fishergate Postern tower where the wounded Dragon will be caged.

We still require 2 agile people to complete the Dragons legs! Any help, please email sec@yorkwalls.org.uk

Please not that In the event of heavy rain the event may have to be cancelled.

Chris Dowell Sec. (FYW)

Her Majesty The Queen was given the time-honoured Monarch’s welcome to the City of York at Micklegate Bar, in a medieval atmosphere conjured up by traditional musicians and musketeers.

She met the Lord Mayor David Horton and the town clerk, Kersten England, who read out a proclamation of welcome.
