illuminating-york-2016

THIS EVENT HAS NOW FINISHED FOR 2016 -sorry if you missed it!  You can however still visit Fishergate Postern Tower on Saturday 29th October from 10am to 4pm.    Admission FREE.

Wednesday 26th & Thursday 27th October 2016  = “Walk York’s City Walls at night, in the dark”  – entry at Bootham Bar and exit at Monk Bar (One Way only).   Open from 6:00pm to 9:00pm as part of the “Illuminating York 2016”  festival.  Last entry 8:45pm.  Bring a torch !

This event is organised by the Friends of York Walls and will give you the opportunity to see night time views of York from the walls, including the part floodlit York Minster.  The walls walk itself is in the dark – there are no special lighting installations along the walk.   FoYW Guides will be on hand + book sales and information at Bootham Bar.

ENTER & START at Bootham Bar – ONE WAY ONLY.   Normal wall walk restrictions apply.  Opening subject to weather and safety conditions.  Walk at your own risk – its a walk in the dark so a torch would be useful.  All children MUST be accompanied.  NO pushchairs.  NO dogs. Photographers please avoid the use of tripods on the walkway.

This “Walls Walk” event is £2.00 for adults, but children (under 16) are FREE – no booking is necessary.    All “donations” to FoYW will be  used to promote and preserve York’s City Walls and Defences.

We understand that Croque Monsieur plan to stay open late – so enjoy a drink or snack before your walk.  At the end of your walk the Richard III Exhibition at Monk Bar  plan to be open on Wednesday, and may be Thursday.   (Separate Admission Charges apply).
